McDaniel Reaches Deal with ChoicePoint

June 01, 2007 LITTLE ROCK ChoicePoint is a provider of identification and credential verification services to businesses, government and non-profit organizations. Among other things, the company collects, maintains, and distributes consumers personally identifiable information. In February 2005, ChoicePoint announced that criminals posing as legitimate businesses gained access to consumers personally identifiable information. In the wake of the security breach, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 44 states, including Arkansas, took separate action to seek redress for affected consumers and improve industry privacy standards. Today, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel issued this consumer alert to announce the states' settlement with ChoicePoint and explain how it will impact consumers.
