June 20, 2008 LITTLE ROCK From floods to tornadoes, summertime is not always such a fun time, especially for victims of natural disasters. 35,000 people have been displaced and 24 killed so far as the Mississippi River continues to overflow its northern banks. Throughout history, whenever a disaster of this magnitude occurs, charities step-in and play an important role in the relief and recovery efforts. Also, ordinary Americans tend to demonstrate tremendous generosity and kindness, often donating a lot of their time and money to aid survivors. Unfortunately, however, when natural disasters strike, scam artists also move into action, seeking to take advantage of a bad situation and the good people who want to help. Accordingly, today Attorney General Dustin McDaniel issued this consumer alert to help Arkansans avoid giving to a phony cause. I think it's despicable that some people try to profit from other people's pain and suffering
