Metal Theft Prevention

Special Agent Jeremiah Terrell at a metal theft inspectionArkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge added an initiative under the Special Investigations Department to combat metal theft, which has harmed Arkansas businesses, farms, schools, homes and churches, in July 2015.

The Metal Theft Prevention Program addresses the problem that too many scrapyards have not been following the law and thus, allowing criminals to get away with metal theft. This coordinated statewide effort trains law enforcement and scrapyard dealers. Agents in the Special Investigations Department inspect scrapyards to ensure non-precious metal is properly registered, and they issue citations for noncompliance.
