Assisted Living and Nursing Homes

Although a service primarily used by Arkansas’s senior population, assisted living facilities and programs, and the various levels of nursing facilities throughout the State, provide care to all ages.

Assisted living is a special combination of housing, supportive services, personalized assistance and health care designed to assist those who need help with the routine activities of daily living. It is not designed to provide skilled nursing care to a patient. Arkansans with family members in need of assisted services, or who themselves may require assistance, can call the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Aging and Adult Services at (866) 801-3435 or visit their website at DAAS.AR.gov to get more information about assisted living options.

Skilled and intermediate care/long term care facilities provide rehabilitative care, post hospitalization as well as skilled nursing care for those patients needing daily medical care.

Individuals in need of acute or long term care should contact the DHS Office of Long Term Care (OLTC) at (501) 682-8430 or visit their website at HumanServices.Arkansas.gov.

If you need financial assistance for one of these services, you may be eligible for the State Medicaid program. Financial eligibility for Medicaid is determined by the Arkansas Department of Human Services’ Division of County Operations. For information about financial eligibility visit your local DHS County Office, call (800) 482-8988 or visit Medicaid.State.AR.us.
