SOLICITOR GENERAL FELLOW-OFFICE OF THE SOLICITOR GENERAL

Join an elite team of appellate lawyers working on complex legal issues. Recent law-school graduates who have just finished clerking (or are looking to fill a gap year before a clerkship) can make an impact, from influencing precedent with significant, real-world implications to presenting appellate oral arguments.  

**Position Overview**

As a Solicitor General Fellow, you’ll play a key role in defending Arkansas’s laws and fighting federal overreach in the Eighth Circuit, other federal courts, and Arkansas appellate courts. You will work on emerging constitutional issues and other complex cases with vital importance to our citizens and the future of our State and Nation. 

**Key Responsibilities**

  1. Present oral argument, including the Eighth Circuit and the Arkansas Supreme Court. 
  2. Research and draft persuasive appellate briefs.
  3. Provide support to the special litigation section, which has primary responsibility to handle complex cases at the trial-court level.
  4. Advise and consult with other Attorney General Office divisions on appellate issues, including strategic considerations at the trial level.
  5. Participate in moot courts and provide feedback to colleagues preparing for oral arguments.

**Qualifications**

  1. J.D. from an accredited law school.
  2. License to practice law in Arkansas or ability to obtain a license quickly.
  3. Must have clerkship experience or a clerkship lined up.
  4. Elite writing, research, and oral-advocacy skills.
  5. Exceptional academic record: Strong preference for attendance at a top-ranked law school and clerkship experience. 
  6. Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
