SOLICITOR GENERAL FELLOW-OFFICE OF THE SOLICITOR GENERAL

Join an elite team of appellate lawyers working on complex legal issues. This fellowship position offers recent law school graduates who have just finished clerking (or are looking to fill a gap year before a clerkship) with the opportunity to gain oral argument experience before appellate courts and to impact the development of precedent with significant, real-world impacts.  

**Position Overview**

As a Solicitor General Fellow, you’ll play a key role in defending Arkansas’s laws and in fighting federal overreach. You’ll get to work on complex cases in the Eighth Circuit and other courts that matter to our citizens and the future of our State and Nation. 

**Key Responsibilities**

1. Present oral argument in appellate courts, including the Eighth Circuit and the Arkansas Supreme Court. 
2. Research and draft persuasive appellate briefs.
3. Provide support to the special litigation division, which has primary responsibility to handle complex cases at the trial-court level.
4. Advise and consult with other Attorney General Office divisions on appellate issues, including strategic considerations at the trial level.
5. Participate in moot courts and provide feedback to colleagues preparing for oral arguments.

**Qualifications**:

1. Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
2. License to practice law in Arkansas or ability to obtain a license quickly.
3. Must have clerkship experience or a clerkship lined up.
4. Exceptional writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
5. Outstanding academic record: Attendance at a top-ranked law school and clerkship experience is strongly preferred. 
6. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
