Griffin: ‘I will routinely identify legislation that I believe is important to the state’
LITTLE ROCK – After sending a letter in support of several bills being considered by the Arkansas Legislature during the 94th General Assembly to Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, House Speaker Matthew Shepherd (R-El Dorado) and Senate President Pro Tempore Bart Hester (R-Cave Springs), Attorney General Tim Griffin issued the following statement:
“I will routinely identify legislation that I believe is important to the state and consistent with my office’s priorities. Today I voiced my support for a number of bills currently under consideration by the Arkansas Legislature. These bills range from strengthening our approach to criminal justice to ensuring that state investments are focused on return and not a progressive agenda. Some of the bills aim to amend parts of our tax laws, and one provides more educational opportunities for Arkansans.”
The letter referenced the following bills:
HJR1006 – A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PROVIDE THAT LOTTERY PROCEEDS MAY BE USED TO FUND OR PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS TO ARKANSAS CITIZENS ENROLLED IN VOCATIONAL-TECHNICAL SCHOOLS AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTES.
HB1004 – TO AMEND THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION ACT OF 1997 TO INCLUDE DISCLOSURE OF A SEX OFFENDER’S ADDRESS TO THE PUBLIC; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
HB1012 – TO AMEND THE STANDARD DEDUCTION FOR INCOME TAX PURPOSES; AND TO INCREASE THE STANDARD DEDUCTION.
HB1085 – AN ACT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY – STATE CRIME LABORATORY DEVELOPMENT AND ENHANCEMENT APPROPRIATION.
HB1097 – TO REDUCE THE TOP MARGINAL TAX RATE FOR INDIVIDUAL TAXPAYERS.
HB1145 – TO CREATE LUPUS AWARENESS DAY.
HB1307 – CONCERNING THE REGULATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL JUSTICE, OR GOVERNANCE SCORES; AND TO AUTHORIZE THE TREASURER OF STATE TO DIVEST CERTAIN INVESTMENTS OR OBLIGATIONS DUE TO CERTAIN FACTORS.
HB1320 – TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING INITIATIVE PETITIONS AND REFERENDUM PETITIONS; AND TO REQUIRE THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO REVIEW AN INITIATIVE PETITION OR REFERENDUM PETITION BEFORE CIRCULATION.
HB1456 – CREATING THE FENTANYL ENFORCEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT OF 2023; CONCERNING FENTANYL AND OTHER CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES; TO ESTABLISH INCREASED PENALTIES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
HB1459 – TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND RELATED OFFENSES; AND TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING FINES FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
HB1470 – TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING CONDITIONS FOR CRIME VICTIMS REPARATIONS FOR VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND CHILD SEX VICTIMS.
SB43 – TO ADD CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS TO AN ADULT-ORIENTED PERFORMANCE; AND TO DEFINE AN ADULT-ORIENTED PERFORMANCE.
SB199 – CONCERNING MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AND GENDER TRANSITION IN MINORS; AND TO CREATE THE PROTECTING MINORS FROM MEDICAL MALPRACTICE ACT OF 2023.
SB204 – TO AMEND THE JUSTICE FOR VULNERABLE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE ACT; TO REMOVE THE AGE LIMITATION FOR A VULNERABLE VICTIM TO BRING A CIVIL ACTION; AND TO AMEND THE COMMENCEMENT DATE FOR A CIVIL ACTION.
SB283 – CREATING THE FENTANYL ENFORCEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT OF 2023; CONCERNING FENTANYL AND OTHER CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES; TO ESTABLISH INCREASED PENALTIES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB294 – TO CREATE THE LEARNS ACT; TO AMEND VARIOUS PROVISIONS OF THE ARKANSAS CODE AS THEY RELATE TO EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH GRADE TWELVE (12) EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS; TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

About Attorney General Tim Griffin
Tim Griffin was elected Attorney General of Arkansas on November 8, 2022. He was elected Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas on November 4, 2014, and was re-elected for his second four-year term on November 6, 2018. From 2011-2015, Griffin served as the 24th Representative of Arkansas’s Second Congressional District. For the 113th Congress, he was a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means while also serving as a Deputy Whip for the Majority. In the 112th Congress, he served as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on the Judiciary.
Griffin is a graduate of Magnolia High School, Hendrix College in Conway and Tulane Law School in New Orleans. He also attended graduate school at Oxford University. Griffin has served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, for over 25 years and currently holds the rank of colonel. In 2005, Griffin was mobilized to active duty as an Army prosecutor at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault in Mosul, Iraq). He is currently serving as the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) for the 81st Readiness Division at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Prior to his current post, Griffin served as the Commander of the 134th Legal Operations Detachment (LOD) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and a senior legislative advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness at the Pentagon. Colonel Griffin holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He also served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Political Affairs for President George W. Bush. Griffin lives in Little Rock with his wife, Elizabeth, a Camden native, and their three children.
