Mr. Johnny Cooper


Gunners Mate 3rd Class (Retired) Johnny Cooper enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served three years until the end of the WWII after Japan formally surrendered.

Johnny served on the USS Boston during World War II. He was present during the Japanese surrender and peace signing ceremony on the Boston outside of Tokyo Bay.

He was involved in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Great Turkey Shoot while serving on the Boston.

After his service, Johnny worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years.

Johnny was married to Lou Ann (Sue) Cooper for 65 years. They had two sons and two daughters in which he is very proud of.
