Consumer Complaint

The Office of the Arkansas Attorney General works with consumers and businesses to address marketplace concerns, including disputes between consumers and businesses about goods and services. Many consumer complaints are resolved when our office notifies the business about the problem.

How Do I File a Consumer Complaint?

3. You may request a paper consumer complaint form be mailed to you by emailing [email protected] or calling (501) 682-2007 to request a form by phone.

What happens once I submit my complaint?

Once our office receives your complaint, we will conduct a preliminary review to determine if the concern is within our jurisdiction. If the complaint is not within our jurisdiction, we will refer you to the appropriate agency for assistance or recommend that you seek private legal advice.

If we determine that your concern is appropriate for mediation, we will contact the business you identified in your complaint, provide the business with a copy of your complaint form, and request a written response from the business within 30 days. We will then provide you with a copy of the company’s response in writing and work with you to determine if further steps are appropriate. Please keep in mind that if you submit a consumer complaint form and mediation is initiated with the business, it could take 30-40 days before we can provide you with an update. 

Our office cannot act as a private attorney for any individual consumer. If you need immediate legal action, please contact a private attorney, or consider small claims court if your disputed claim is less than $5,000. If you do not have a private attorney, you can search for an attorney by city, county, and area of practice on the Arkansas Bar Association website at arkansasfindalawyer.com. Depending on your income, you may qualify for assistance with civil matters from the Arkansas Legal Partnership, which can be accessed online at arlawhelp.org or by calling (888) 540-2941.
