**Position Overview**:

As Deputy General Counsel, you will work closely with the General Counsel in advising the Attorney General and the Office’s senior leadership team on a wide-ranging portfolio of legal, operational, and policy issues. You will work on some of the most important legal issues facing Arkansas alongside some of the State’s brightest legal minds. 

The responsibilities of the position may evolve based on the needs of the Office and the experience and strengths of the successful candidate. The Deputy General Counsel must be prepared to evaluate legal and strategic risks, manage competing priorities, and provide practical advice on matters involving the Office’s internal operations and external priorities.

**Key Responsibilities**:

1. Represent the interests of the Office at internal and external meetings with state, federal, and private-sector stakeholders.
2. Complete high-priority research projects, often on tight deadlines.
3. Draft, review, edit, and negotiate the Office’s contracts and other agreements.
4. Collaborate with all of the Office’s divisions in strategic planning for litigation, investigations, legislation, communications, and policy. Review and edit the Office’s filings in high-profile litigation and Attorney General Opinions.
5. Advise the General Counsel and other senior leaders regarding litigation strategy and risk throughout the life cycle of a matter.
6. Identify whether legal positions, factual representations, proposed settlements, contracts, or other actions in one matter could affect other litigation, investigations, policies, or priorities of the Office.
7. Provide practical legal advice concerning internal operational matters, including fiscal and budgeting issues, personnel matters, ethics, records, artificial intelligence, and other issues assigned by the General Counsel.
8. Be aggressive in solving problems or—still better—spotting issues and preventing problems in the first place.

**Qualifications**:

1. Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, along with an Arkansas law license or the ability to obtain a license quickly.
2. At least two years of legal experience preferred, but applications from exceptional recent graduates will be considered.
3. Meaningful civil litigation experience is strongly preferred, particularly in complex civil litigation, government litigation, or consumer-protection litigation.
4. Experience in transactional law and employment law are also highly desirable.
5. Elite research and writing skills.
6. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
7. Judgment, initiative, discretion, and the ability to handle privileged, high-profile matters appropriately.
8. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and develop productive working relationships across divisions and professional disciplines.
